The Sun is Shining, the Birds are Singing

from Red Leaf, Grey Sky: Piano Improvisations (EP) by Catherine Marie Charlton

about

Originally created in 1993 when I was living in Hamburg, Germany, I have always called this by its German title, "die Sonne scheint, die Voegel singen...". My German teacher in high school, Frau Trice, would always come into the classroom every day proclaiming "die Sonne scheint..." no matter the weather outside. I always loved her outlook on life. Even though it's been an audience favorite, I hadn't recorded the evolution of the song since its first recording on "Strange Attractors". I wanted to bookend the day's recording session with this joyous piece. I figured after 17 years and so much that has changed in my life perhaps I could give it a "new" name...
